Many had difficulty believing that she was in fact a British born talent and NOT American!
She began her recording career in 1991, quite by mistake
After attending a talent contest in London as an audience member, Melissa somehow found herself on stage in front of a 400 strong audience, performing Gladys Knight’s “Memories…The way we were.” It later transpired that one of the original contestants had pulled out due to nerves at the last minute!
Also present at this impromptu performance was Sara Montague from Tone records who promptly signed Melissa to her independent Label.
Melissa’s Debut release was entitled “Reconsider” which went on to become the fastest selling street soul track of 1992, it topped the “street soul” charts at No. 1 for seven weeks.
The success of the debut release sparked a lot of attention from the industry. Soul II Soul's “Jazzie”, was intent on signing Melissa to front his chart-topping band.
Celebrities such as Elton John, George Michael, Queen, Lisa Stansfield, Liza Minelli, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder and Sarah Brightman have also used Melissa’s vocal talents in their live performances and studio recordings…
After 3 world tours, four albums, and a long successful span with Soul II Soul, Melissa now fronts Soul Explosion, who enjoying a new lease of success and popularity on the function and corporate scene.
